Matt because they are using a 4 port module in the cisco 2811 they could not change the mac address for some reason? Does it make sense?

After some futher investigation and confirmation from a few other sources, unfortunatley that is correct.

Leaving you either the dot1q option, or getting different switches which have mac-address tables per vlan. In your current setup, if you replaced the 8000M with a 5304xl or something, it would do the trick nicely. You could then put the 8000M somewhere else where it only had the one uplink.
