Access private IP devices from outside

Access private IP devices from outside

Hi all,

I have a set of Proliant servers connected with a Procurve 2626 switch. All these servers are configured with 192.168.X.X series and equipped with multiple NICs. How do I access these servers from outside.
Is there anyway by assigning a public IP to my switch and do some trick..? Please help

You can do some basic NATing on the 5300 series but not on the 2600 series.

Re: Access private IP devices from outside

Hi

Its a Router/Firewall game, and its never been a Switch game.

Since you are saying access from OUTSIDE, so i assume this OUTSIDE means
- Another Network.
- From Internet.

In both cases you need a firewall in your network, and with the firewall you can do a NATted IP that maps your public to private.

Never rely on a switch to do a firewall stuff.

Good Luck !!!

Re: Access private IP devices from outside

What will happen, If I do the following procedure.

1. Assign a public IP for the switch.
2. Add a route for 192.168.X.X network in the machine from where I am trying to access the servers.
3. For the above said route, set the switch IP as the gateway.
4. So if I try to access any of the 192.168.X.X ip, will that switch route my request to the corresponding system..?
5. Is it not possible with the 2626 switch..?

Correct me if Iam wrong.

Re: Access private IP devices from outside

Hi,

You're wrong. That won't work.

You need a NAT capable device to be able to translate the public IP address to the 192.168.x.x address.

Cheers,

Rob
