Allow one MAC by port 4108gl

Hi,

I have an ethernet port that is on a shared room. I want to allow a specific MAC address to be connected to that port (all other MAC addess will not be accepted to be connected to this port).

Is it possible to do this with the HP 4108gl switch?

Regards,
Yanick

Re: Allow one MAC by port 4108gl

Hi

You can do this using the Port-security Command, If you make sure the devie is plugged in to the correct port and then enter :

port-security xx learn-mode static action send-disable address-limit 1

This will configure the port to learn the MAC address of the connected device, and if any other mac's are detected on that port it will send an SNMP trap and disable the port. It will have to be re- enabled manually.

I think there is another way to do it, but i can't remember it off the top of my head.

There are quite a few variations on the port-security command, You can use the built in help on the switch to find out the commands/parameters that would best suit you.

Hope this helps a little!

Cheers
