Appletalk support on 5406

Hi

I have some MAC clients who have been printing using Appletalk without any problems. They were all on a single VLAN with a Cisco router as the gateway.

I have just recently activated L3 on the 5406 and moved the internal routing onto this switch and created multiple VLANs.

Now with the MAC clients on their own VLAN and the printer on a different VLAN, printing has stopped completely. Do I need to add support for Appletalk to be routed between VLANs??

Thanks
Richard

Re: Appletalk support on 5406

The 5400's do not support Appletalk routing. Using standard port-based VLANs you could either move the printers back into the same VLAN as the MAC clients, or migrate the MAC's and printers to IP.

One other thing you might want to look into is Protocol VLANs, that way you should be able to keep the devices in their current VLANs, but also allow an additional Appletalk VLAN so those devices can still communicate.
