Bandwidth Throttling on Procurve?

Rarely do we Net Admins get asked; Hey, can you slow down the network a bit? :) However, for testing purposes, I was recently asked exactly this. Is there a way to limit bandwidth to our W2K IIS server to speeds such as 256Kbps, 512Kbps, etc.? We need to do some application response time testing based on certain bandwidths for a web app we're creating. Can this be done using a Procurve 4000 and if not, can you recommend a way to achive this? Thx. David@rocketmail.com

Easy to do with a pair of routers connected via serial links. The DCE one controls the clock so you can dial in your bandwidth.

I don't think that you can limit the bandwidth on a per port basis on the 4000 (except for broadcast and multicast control that is), but you can control the bandwidth on your web server instead.

It is a feature called "Bandwidth Throttling", and you can read more about it here:

Re: Bandwidth Throttling on Procurve?

Hi David,
To confirm: Procurves with codebase C.xx.xx (4000/8000/2424/1600/2400M) do not support rate limiting. At this moment, only the Routing Switch supports rate limiting.
