Best Setup for 2x 2824 and ESX
Hi,
I have a ESX Server with 2 pNics connected to 2x Procurve 2824.
I want the following Setup:
Each of the Nics is connected to a 2824. (Nic-A to Port1/Switch1, Nic-B to Port1/Switch2). The 2 Switches are also connected witch each other. The Uplink go the Cisco Switch.(See the Attachment for a better explanation).
Is this Setup possible and how can i configure this ?
I`ve never done this before and a search via Google didn`t help me. (Some say you need STP for this, some say you only need to trunk the two Ports).
Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English.
Matthias

Re: Best Setup for 2x 2824 and ESX
hi Matthias
you can enable spanning tree protocol on procurve switch
if not enable stp on network become loop on network
imposible trunk config (namely LACP)but your server connect two different switch
you make must be enable spanning tree (for L2 redundancy and prevent loop )

Re: Best Setup for 2x 2824 and ESX
Thx for answer.
Correct me if I`m wrong, but with (R|M)STP the ESX Server use only 1 Nic and so 1 Switch at the same time (Active/Passive) or is it possible that he use both Nic`s (Active/Active) ?

Re: Best Setup for 2x 2824 and ESX
You may use PVST and configure preferred path for one vlan to nic-1 and another to nic-2.
then both nic's van be active sending trafic for it's vlan, and be a redundant path voor the other.
As Cenk allread mentioned, because of connecting to two different switches you cannot configure both nic's into a LACP-trunk (etherchannel).
