Blue Squares on PCM2.0+

Hello HP World ;-)

I'm experiencing a very strange problem with Procurve Manager + 2.0
All my devices on the network are correctly discovered, but on the VLAN map appear very strange blue squares between most of the equipments.
I've tried uninstalling & re-installing the software after deleting all the old files, but with no success.

One year ago I've already installed quite the same configuration at another client's & everything worked OK. The only difference is that the at my old client, the VLAN1 (DEFAULT_VLAN) on the switches was used as Default VLAN for the Client PCs. At the new client, the VLAN1 (DEFAULT_VLAN) is not used & the Default VLAN config on all the switches has been changed to VLAN2

As an attachment you can see a display of the network map :-(

Does anyone have an idea???

Hi Jean

Usually the Blue Square indicates to unknown Device (no status available).

If you have a mouse-over any one of these blue squares (or double click) to get access to the device information, you may find out what are these pretty things doing there.

Things like unmanaged switches can show up like that. Maybe media converters too?

I would recommend you update to PCM 2.1 and ensure all devices are at the latest firmware. This will ensure all devices are running LLDP which should help the mapping.

Otherwise if you try 'show cdp n d' and 'show lldp info remote-devices' on the switches, hopefully this will help you identify what's happening.

That's what I thought. Actually I still have some old Mini-Hubs on the network. But on the link in the red circle on the last JPG I'm sure there is none as the 2 equipments are linked by a Multimode fiber-optic cable.

I'm with Matt to upgrade your PCM+ to version 2.1, since you have done uninstallation and reinstallation, and i think you will get rid of these blue squares.

And ....
I have a suggestion for you.

I'll Install it on my Prod server. Hope that my license is OK!

Install Procurve Manager 2.1 instead of 2.0!

Thats good. I faced same problem and then I started using Arena and I got very good results. For Arena even I dont need to care about CDP/LLDP. Some of my switches using CDP, some LLDP and some not running any discovery protocol. But still I got good result with all the workstations connected to switches.
