Cisco PA-2FE-TIX ISL and HP2524 J4813A
I get a Cisco PA-2FE-TX ISL Module on a Cisco 7206VXR Router this Port is Connectet to a HP 2524 Switch on Port 7. The Cisco Module Support only 100MBit Full or Half Duplex i set my Cisco Module to 100Mbit Full Duplex. The HP 2524 see always 100MBit Half Duplex. Okay then i set the the HP2524 FIX to 100MBit Full Duplex, the Connection still work. but my Event Log is groving very fast with this Message.
W 08/19/04 09:17:27 FFI: port 7-Excessive late collisions.
W 08/19/04 09:17:59 FFI: port 7-Excessive late collisions.

Also my Port Status has a lot of Error.

late collision are often with faulty hardware or to long cable.

Re: Cisco PA-2FE-TIX ISL and HP2524 J4813A
The reason about bandwidth 1250000 is taht my MRTG get the right Infos out form the Interface.
Hardware is replace if i use a 3Com Switch or a Cisco Switch then i dont have this big Errors and Messages.
Cable is 2Meter direct from Device 2 Device also not a cable size Problem.

Today i also replace the Switch with no Solution, for me i think the 2524 and the PA-2FE-TX ISL not works together.
Is this realy possible or cut be this a Software Bug on the 2524 Switch ?

Re: Cisco PA-2FE-TIX ISL and HP2524 J4813A
I have seen this before. It seems that full duplex on the HP switch is not Full duplex: since the counters are telling you it is working on half duplex: collisions are only seen in half duplex mode. You can either set the port in auto (and also the cisco!) or in half dulpex. It seems that the half and full duplex are reversed.
On the cisco side I haven't had any problems.

Re: Cisco PA-2FE-TIX ISL and HP2524 J4813A
Normal behavior is:
Auto - Auto will result in Full - Full or Half - Half.
Auto - Half will result in Half - Half
Auto - Full will result in Half - Full : duplex mismatch!
Automatic had problems in the past so it is adviced to make a fixed setting. But... sometimes these fixed settings are not fixed or they are reversed: Hals is Full and Full is Half.
If You set the port on the HP procurve to Full duplex it is impossible to get collissions. Collisions are situations from HALF dulpex (good old ethernet on coax).
If You set the port on the HP procurve to HALF duplex and you have NO collisions it seems top work on FULL duplex.
Also: Do not relay on counters only. Use FTP to send and receive a large file (10 Mb or +) and see if there is a performance problem.
Also check if you have the latest IOS (HP and Cisco).
