Configure Event Log on ProCurve 5300XL

My Event Log populated with information messages like that

I 08/07/06 13:52:15 ports: port H6 is now on-line
I 08/07/06 13:52:24 ports: port H1 is now off-line

How can disable logging information messages. I cant find this in documentation.

To disable logging for on-line, off-line messages:

5300(config)# setmib 1.3.6.1.2.1.16.9.1.1.3.77 -i 1

5300(config)# setmib 1.3.6.1.2.1.16.9.1.1.3.76 -i 1

The default is (4)

Value list: 1: none(1)
2: log(2)
3: snmp-trap(3)
4: log-and-trap(4)

Personally I would leave these enabled as they are, they can be very helpful for troubleshooting.

I need trap and log. But i want logging only warrnings and errors, not information messages like "port on-line", "port off-line".
Log is full of this messages. They appear when connected PC is powering on or off. 200 useless messages a day.

With the SNMP traps you can at least configure it to send everything except information messages, e.g.:

5300(config)# snmp-server host 10.0.0.10 not-info

Everything will still appear in the switch event log, but at least you will not get so many traps being sent.

Also with my first message, those setmib entries will only disable on-line, off-line messages. Everything else will continue to work as is.

If you do a:

5300# walkmib eventdescription

You will see that 76 and 77 are the on-line off-line messages.

Going through this list you can choose which objects you wish to change from the default of 4.
