Configuring cisco pix506E Firewall to work without a router

Hi everyone

Is it possible to configure a Cisco Pix506E firewall to work without going through a router but instead it goes through a hub or a switch.

Has anyone done this before?

Please help.

Regards

Bonnie.

Re: Configuring cisco pix506E Firewall to work without a router

What are you tring to achieve?

We have a cisco PIX 515 which is connected to a switch on one side and a router on the other.

The PIX has basic routing capabilities itself, You can assign static routes etc.
Where there is a will there is a way...

Thanks Jonathan,
Iam trying to implement a Pix between 2 different networks and we do not have a router instead we have hubs and switches between the networks.

But looking at your answer it appears it's possible to link up the two networks with out actually going through the actual router but instead use the hubs and switches. Thanks once again.

Hi Bonnie,

I would say that it is possible,You could use the PIX firewall as the router in this situation, rather than having to get a seperate router for the job.

Have fun
