Connecting 2 ProCurve 2810s together

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the world of HP switches, and I'm having some looping issues on my links between the 2 switches.

How do I go about properly connecting the 2 switches together? Does the switch support multiple link aggregation? I've been searching the internet for answerers, but I think I'm asking the wrong questions :)

Thanks!

Re: Connecting 2 ProCurve 2810s together

After a little more research I setup a trunk by doing the following:

switch# config t
switch(config)# trunk 46,48 trk1 lacp

But this seemed to break things horribly :(

Re: Connecting 2 ProCurve 2810s together

Hi,

Yes the switches do support link aggregation.
I'd stick to static trunks on switch-switch links.
So you should just need to do the following for example:

Switch 1:

switch1(config)# trunk 46,48 trk1

Switch 2:

switch2(config)# trunk 46,48 trk1

Best practice is not to connect the cables between the switches until after you have the trunk setup otherwise you will (albeit temporarily) create a loop.

Re: Connecting 2 ProCurve 2810s together

I was told I had to enable spanning tree on the trunk to prevent a loop/broadcast storms.

I have on both switches:

trunk 1-2 Trk1 LACP
spanning-tree
spanning-tree Trk1 priority 4

Re: Connecting 2 ProCurve 2810s together

You don't need to have spanning tree running to create trunks (just don't connect the ports until the trunk is setup) but it's not a bad thing to have STP running.
Like I said, stick with static trunks rather than LACP, there's less to go wrong.
Do the following:

- Disable port 1 on switch 1 (int 1 dis)
- Break the trunk on both switches (no trunk 1,2)
- Recreate it as a static trunk on both swtiches (trunk 1,2 trk1)
- Renable port 1 on switch 1 (int 1 ena)

Check the trunk with the "show trunk" on both switches.

Thanks Mohammed!

Just as I got confused from the last post, you jumped in a cleared everything right up.

Thanks again,
