I would like to know what is the difference between a normal gigabit SX transceiver (J4131B) and the new mini-GBIC SX-LC one (J4858A). I mean, both are SX, so what is the difference? What are these "mini-GBICs"? We quoted for one of these little GBICs for thousands of $, if you buy a new switch, it is much less expensive than a single GBIC!!
Thanks, I'll assign points... giving the first points in this forum :-)

Re: Difference between normal transceivers and min-GBIC transceivers
The main difference between a GBIC and a MiniGBIC is , the size !!!
A mini-GBIC takes about half the size of a "normal" GBIC
-> You can then have more ports on a single blade
The purpose af GBICs ( and MiniGBICs ) is to be able to mix SX,LX, and LH port on a single blade/switch or migrating from SX to LX for instance, without changing the blade/switch

Re: Difference between normal transceivers and min-GBIC transceivers
Anyway, I didn't give you the bunny because there is still some info I'd like to know...
Like, what exactly is the difference between the J4131B and the J4858A, since they both operate on SX mode...?
Thnaks for your help so far,
Vince

SolutionI still would answer :
the connector size
If you have to choose between the two, just consider :
- the price
- The fiber you'll have to use ( it's price could be different for the two connector types )
