Does 4200vl routing require a router ?

I'm trying to isolate a couple of load balanced devices into a separate vlan on our 4200vl switch to stop the flooding that is occuring on the network.

According to the doco 3 things must be done:
add IP addresses to vlans, enable IP routing, add Static Routes (the 4200 doesn't support RIP or OSPF :( )

What Static Routes are needed ? Other forum responses suggest that creating the vlan IP addresses creates the necessary Static Routes by default, but it doesn't seem to work. I've put my understanding of that scenario into a diagram (attached) and tried to emulate it but without the external firewall/router. But it doesn't seem to work.

Is there something I'm missing ?

Oops. One of the Workstation gateways wasn't set correctly. Works fine now.
