FastBoot on procurve switches

What does fastboot do on the procurve switches, and if is does what it implies why does it not do it by default.

Chris

Re: FastBoot on procurve switches

Hi Chris,

It's documented in the latest revisions of the management and configuration guide:

"Using the Fastboot feature. The fastboot command allows a boot
sequence that skips the internal power-on self-tests, resulting in a faster boot
time."

It's not enabled by default so that the full power-on self-tests are performed.

I can imagine a scenario where you're troubleshooting some strange switch behaviour which was due to a hardware fault, but because the self-tests were not run you may not be immediately aware of the fault.

That said, I still like the fastboot command myself.
