Filters to monitor Uplinks in PCM

Is it possible to create a filter in PCM so that only errors on uplinks are shown in the Events table?

The filter types seem too limiting - description is always generic and does not include port information until you click the web link.

Is there another way to accomplish this? Can I set the switches to send more specific information to PCM?

Which log, the SysLog or TrapLog?

The SysLog has only a rudimentary include filter. You could enter a portion of the event like port number and it will show only those.

The TrapLog has much better filters. You can define several filters and toggle any combination of them to filter in or out what you want.

Err..not sure! :) I'm thinking of the Events window within PCM. We have a fair number of errors showing up (mostly collisions from duplex mismatches). I'd like to filter out the client ports (ie 1-48 or 1-24) but keep the uplink ports (49,50, 25,26 etc).

Sounds like you are talking about the TrapLog. That is the one that shows just general info and you then need to drill down to the switch's SysLog for the detail.

If there is not sufficient info in the payload to filter on then you are out of luck. I would suggest you get a 3rd party application that does a better job of processing alerts. I use WhatsUp and have heard good things about Kiwi.
