Re: HP Procurve 4108GL - Problem with Slot C = 72port 10/100
What kind of Module is this? Are you trying to hotswap? What firmware do you have? If up to date (G.07.27) I would suggest opening a supportcall with HP for TS, possible module/backplane failure.
I would upgrade the Firmware first before opening a call.
Kind regards,
Mik

Re: HP Procurve 4108GL - Problem with Slot C = 72port 10/100
it's a J4862A 24 port 10/10Tx The firmware revision is G.07.21 and from the release notes for the new revision, i can't see anything relating to the loss of communication with a module. I haven't re-seated it or performed any other type of hotswap, in fact I'm somewhat reluctant to try in case I screw the whole thing up.
Due to company cutbacks, our management decided to drop support on all switches due to the lifetime warranty it's supposed to have with it, sanity comes into question here!
Thanks for advice so far.............
Cheers

SolutionUpgrading the firmware could fix this problem. There are some fixes in unreleased firmwares after G07.21 and before G07.27 regarding similar error messages.
HP gives lifetime warranty so why not call HP directly and open a supportcall. They (as I) would need the "show tech" from the switch. Phone 0870-8422339 then option 1-->4-->4. You'll get straight to the Procurve support team. They'll also ask you to try the module in an other slot to check if the problem follows the module or slot, upgrade the firmware and send a new "show tech". You could alway's put the firmware on the secondary flash and then boot from the secondar flash, if needed you could rollback to primary flash.
Kind regards,
SCOOTER

Re: HP Procurve 4108GL - Problem with Slot C = 72port 10/100
Another module stopped communicating in the same way, then I lost all telnet and ping from the LAN to this switch, so I re-booted it, got basic connectivity back and uploaded G_07_27.swi it looks OK now, but I'll keep my eye on it. I've enclosed the 'sh tech' for info and I'll call HP if the problem occurs again.
Thanks ever so, for the help so far!
Cheers
