HP4000M - management access?

I have a number of HP4000M switches, each of which have SNMP community names for read and write access. (MIB view: Manager, write access restricted and unrestricted accordingly.)  I am trying to read the SNMP data - but failing (I can read the data from other proCurve switches).  They are currently managed from a central system and have the "Manager Address" set accordingly under the "Telnet - Manager Mode".  We want to be able to have read the SNMP data from multiple systems.  Is it possible to have a manager address which is a subnet address rather than a unique address?  For example: 10.100.0.0/16 rather than 10.100.4.4/32?

I am trying to access via a modified SwitchMap PERL-based application from elsewhere on the 10.100.0.0/16 subnet.
