Help needed in Mirror Port!

We have HP Procurve 3500yl in our company. I need to put one port as mirror port and monitor all other ports on that port.
Will this cause any problem in traffic?
What kind of effects should i except by this change?
All our traffic is on that switch and we dont want to encounter any slow down.

Re: Help needed in Mirror Port!

Not that I'm aware off.

You have many options how you want to mirror like remote or local.

Re: Help needed in Mirror Port!

If you need to monitor all traffic on your switch, why not just monitor the uplink port?

Port monitoring copies all traffic from the specified port(s) to the monitor port, so this does have the potential to bog down your network. In fact, port monitoring really should only be enabled when you are using it and turned off when you are not.

You may want to start out monitoring a few ports at a time and see how it effects your network.

Re: Help needed in Mirror Port!

I don't know about the 3500's but with my 2800's I can't mirror every port. I can select several ports but after a few, it doesn't work. I think it gets overloaded.

This is the big drawback regarding switches but for the speed difference, it's well worth switches over hubs. IMO.

Re: Help needed in Mirror Port!

I think the second solution is better one.
I will try to monitor only one port which is uplink.
I have to monitor the effects on the switch.
Thank you all for your reply.
