Host route table sizes

I wonder which is the most capable L3 routing switch in the Procurve series today?

I'm talking in a pure pps/Mbps performance perspective, but with a large number of different source/dest IP addresses (>10.000)?

Models of consideration are 3400cl, 3500yl, 5300, 5400.

I read somewhere that the 3400 uses a different routing model than for instance 3500, with a seperate host route table for directly connected hosts, and a best-prefix network route table for external hosts. Is that right?

If that's true, is the 3500 still superiour to a 3400 when routing alot of external IP adresses?
