Hp 2526 Change of IP Address

Hello All!

Although I don't think this may be an issue, wondering whether changing a production HP ProCurve 2526 from DHCP to statically-assigned IP address, provide to network disruption.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Hp 2526 Change of IP Address

Hi Angel,

Wow a 2526, how did you add the extra ports? Or is it a new switch that I havn't hear about ;)
Now for real, I don't think that this can cause network disruption aslong as you give it the same IP as giv'n by the DHCP server and fix that in the server aswell. If you give it another IP this could disrupt monitoring software slightly. If you have a flat network there should be no problem but if you are routing you have to concider ther routing and subnets etc. So be carfull of what you do and when you do it.

Re: Hp 2526 Change of IP Address

Scooter,

You in the UK? I have a feelin' you are.
Yes, I plan to do the changes after hours in both sections. Switch will have different IP address than the DHCP assigned.

Thanks for the information

Re: Hp 2526 Change of IP Address

Angel,

Changing from a DHCP to static management IP address will not disrupt switching services. It will, however, disconnect your telnet/http session with the switch as the new IP address takes effect. You will need to re-establish your telnet/http connection unless you're using the console cable to make this change.

Good luck!
If a problem can be fixed, there's nothing to worry. If a problem can't be fixed, worrying ain't gonna help. Bottom line: don't worry.
