IPv6 on 2900 series

Hi All,

HP now say that the 2900 series switches support IPv6 (http://www.hp.com/rnd/products/switches/ProCurve_Switch_2900_Series/features.htm) but i can't find any docs for IPv6 configuration. I've had a good look around in switches runing the latest firmware to no avail, can someone please point me in the right direction.

Thanks - Mark

Re: IPv6 on 2900 series

Marketing appears to be ahead of reality a bit. One site suggested 1st February as a ship date for the new firmware.

I would keep an eye on http://www.hp.com/rnd/support/manuals/2900.htm for new docs/firmware. Or you could subscribe for firmware update notifications.

Re: IPv6 on 2900 series

Hi

I believe the most important here is the 2900 hardware is IPv6 ready form the ASIC point of view.

Once the firmware if out, we can update it on the 2900 and enjoy the IPv6 networks.

Good Luck !!!

Re: IPv6 on 2900 series

I'm not in procurve so I may start chewing on my toes, but WRT "supporting" IPv6 I take it you mean by way of communicating with the switch itself using IPv6 yes? I'd think that the (any) switch would be able to pass IPv6 frames as a plain layer-2 device already.

Re: IPv6 on 2900 series

Sorry for the (very) delayed reply.

Yes I am talking about managing the switch with IPv6 and therefore it having an IPv6 address itself. Also... routing IPv6.

We've been using HP switches to switch IPv6 packets for about 5 or 6 years so that, of course, isn't an issue.

It's one of the only non IPv6 devices on our network these days.

So.... marketing announced support in Jan and now it's May - hmmmmm, very much ahead of themselves then I'd say.

Re: IPv6 on 2900 series

It's there now, and dated January 2008. Hmm, I guess someone put a 11th hour hold on the 13.xx series firmware.

Re: IPv6 on 2900 series

It was briefly released but was pulled back due to some stability concerns. It has been released again now as T.13.09 which is now available.

Re: IPv6 on 2900 series

Great stuff... looks like a very comprehensive IPv6 implementation too.
Thanks :-)
