Inter-VLAN connection on 1800-24G

I am new to switch configuration. I am trying to isolate 4 PCs in our business office so they will not be visible to the rest of the office. They will need access to the main file server. Other than this shared resource, there is no need for those 4 PCs to see the other PCs, or the other way around. Can I configure two VLANs, make the four PCs ports a member of one, the rest a member of the other, and the link to the file server a member of both? Please let me know if I am misunderstanding the capabilities of VLANs. Thanks.

You can do this, but the server NIC will have to support 802.1Q tagged VLANs. Most decent server NIC's have software included which will allow you to configure VLANs on the server itself (e.g. Intel PROSet).

You will then configure the 2 VLANs on the switch, and the have the server port a tagged member of both VLANs (or untagged on one, tagged on the other).
