Intervlan Communication....

Hi, I have a ProCurve 2524 with two vlans. One has ip address 10.x.x.1/24 the other has 10.x.x+2.1/24. I have an ADSL router on the first vlan with ip address 10.x.x.2/24. I cannot seem to ping or talk to the adsl router from the second vlan. Is this standard or is there a way of getting round this?

thanks

Re: Intervlan Communication....

10.x.x.x / 24 is 16 bits borrowed, so you'rel ooking at 10.0.1.1 and 10.0.2.1 for the two networks

let me also say you can use 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.1.1 if you prefer... :-)

Re: Intervlan Communication....

Hi Nilesh,

Since the 2524 does not support routing, the ADSL router will need to route between both networks (if it can). It will also need to support VLAN tagging which not all of them do.

On the switch you will need both VLAN's to be tagged on the port that connects to the ADSL router (or one untagged, the other tagged).

The ADSL router will then need to be configured for both VLAN's. You will need to match the VLAN IDs.
