Jabbering on Procurve 4108

Hi

One of our 4108 switches keeps crashing, network traffic stops on that switch only. To solve the problem all I do is unplug fibre link to 9304 switch and replug it in. When the switch is back working again it reports jabbering on port a1 minutes before it crashed (A1 is fibre link to our 9304). Does it mean it was jabbering from the switch or to the switch. We have 400 nodes on a flat network with a mixture of 2650, 4108 and 2524 all connected to a 9304 using fibre links. Could the jabbering card be anywhere on the network or is it on the 4108.

Thanks

Carl

Thanks

I have read that doc. I am trying to work out if the faulty network card could be any where on the network or just on the switch that crashes

Re: Jabbering on Procurve 4108

It's the connecting cable/interface between the two switches.
so look at port A1 and its brother on the other switch.

Re: Jabbering on Procurve 4108

I have moved the cable for one port to another port on the 4108 and the jabbering follows the cable. Can you get jabbering on a fibre? The other end of the cable is connected to the 9304 that switch never crashes could it be the 4108 is faulty?

Re: Jabbering on Procurve 4108

What is the config of the ports on both sides?

With copper you have to do auto, but fibre can be set to auto-1000 fixed

They are both set to auto should I change them

Re: Jabbering on Procurve 4108

Wouldn't hurt, if you are sure that they are both GB modules(I believe it wouldn't even work otherwise)

Be prepared for temp loss off link though

Re: Jabbering on Procurve 4108

Also a fiber cable can go bad.
- connector dirty
- cable to far bent
- cable broken

you allready switched ports on the 4108
left are
- other cable
- other port on 9304
