LES and Procurve Switches (2610)

Afternoon All,

Looking into LES solutions, since LES is L3 can i use 2x 2610/24's 1x at each site and with the use of VLANs and L3 routing on the 2610s connect the two sites without the use of routers?

Thanks,
Karl.

Re: LES and Procurve Switches (2610)

Afternoon Cenk,

LES - LAN Extension Service or it could be known as EES.

Thanks,
Karl.

Re: LES and Procurve Switches (2610)

What LES includes
This special access service
includes Ethernet terminations
that we install at your end-user
locations and at your Point of
Presence (POP) or Expanded
Interconnection Service (EIS)
Collocation. It also includes dedicated
two-pair fiber between those
locations. If the locations you
designate, called Customer
Designated Locations or CDLs,
have different Serving Wire
Centers (SWC), we also provide
transport between the SWCs via
two-pair fiber.
Verizon LAN extension
service benefits
â ¢ Minimizes the investment
required to provide high-speed,
Ethernet-based services to your
customers
â ¢ Greatly reduces the risks of offering
Ethernet access to your customers
because Verizon provides
the fiber network
Wholesale
if is this LES solution

2610 switch support minigbic fiber module and able routing between vlan's and static routing

Re: LES and Procurve Switches (2610)

Hi Cenk,

Why do i need NAT or Dyn Routing if the link is Layer 3?

Thanks,
Karl.

Re: LES and Procurve Switches (2610)

2610 can be a local router and do static routing...so they will still be "routers" in a true definition...they just can't do dynamic routing protocols...

config each vlan with an ip addr
no def gateway
enable routing - 'ip routing'

to get to networks across the 2 sites, config static route entries to point to the others network, using the interconnected network link...

btw, must use procurve only mini-gbics...generic brand mini-gbics will not be recognized...

Re: LES and Procurve Switches (2610)

Hi all,

Thanks for all your help so far.

Let me pass this thought via you all.

Site 1 = 192.168.1.0/24 (VID 10)
Site 2 = 192.168.2.0/24 (VID 20)
-Site 2's Internet traffic goes via Site 1-

Create VLAN 10 for site 1 on 2610 @ Site 1
Create VLAN 20 for site 2 on 2610 @ Site 1
Assign IPs to both VLANs @ site 1 (So in practice the 2610 at site 1 is the Core - IP routing default routes etc config'd).

Config the 2610 @ site 2 for VID 20 but assign no IP to the VLAN (So the 2610 @ site 2 is an edge) all the routing is then done @ Site 1 for both sites.

(The LES/EES is the only WAN link to site 2)

Thanks,
Karl.
