I have some problems with a HP 4108GL switch.
Around 13:00 users call me: they're unable to save their file on the servers.
I checked the mapped network drive, all seems to be OK.
The console switch (http:\\192.168.0.1) reports some errors:
'Lost connection to multiple device on port: AX'
'Lost connection to multiple device on port: DY'.
The log opened from a telnet session reports this messages:
I 11/15/02 13:01:03 chassis: Slot A Downloading
I 11/15/02 13:01:08 chassis: Slot A Download Complete
W 11/15/02 13:01:16 chassis: Slot A Assertion failed: soc->soc_link_pause > 0, f
I 11/15/02 13:01:33 chassis: Slot A Ready
What's happened ?
What was downloading the Slot A inserted in the switch ? Updated Firmware ? From where ?
Thanks

Solutionshow version
(on a Cisco it tells you why its last reboot happened and when)
or
show tech
may give you more info. Show tech will give you a giant file so you need to set your terminal to capture/log it.

Re: Loss connection to multiple device on port ...
I have heard of the ???assertion failed??? error in the HP Procurve Switch 4100GL series, for this error it would be best to call the Customer Support Center in your region of the world, which I believe would be Amsterdam. They can be reached at: + 31 (0)20 606 8751
You should do the show tech as Ron suggested before calling in, as the engineers in Amsterdam will need that information to determine the next step.

Re: Loss connection to multiple device on port ...
The software release G.05.01 should correct the bug.
( See the list of problems resolved in that release: PR_4229: Module Crash: A module may crash with a message similar to:
-> Assertion failed: soc->soc_link_pause >0,f
(ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/nw293_readg502.html : Software Version G.xx.xx Information for the Switch 4104GL and Switch 4108GL)
Thank you !

Re: Loss connection to multiple device on port ...
I did not realize that the Assertion failure was addressed by the G.05.01 firmware. The latest firmware is G.05.04, and does have the fix included for the assertion failure. I need to remember to look at the items that have been fixed in each roll of the code.

Re: Loss connection to multiple device on port ...
I was wrong.
I've downloaded the two latest release available (G.05.02 - G.05.04).
Thanks again.
