I have a Pavilion 5400 laptop computer,lost my 56k modem. Called MSN. TECH. THEY ADVISED ME TO DELETE THAT MODEM IN THE ADD/REMOVE SECTION.NOW I CANNOT GET THAT 56K MODEM BACK ON.ANY SUGGESTIONS? OR/ DO I ORDER A DISC FROM H.P. THANK YOU "EV"

I'm assuming you're refering the an internal modem.
Have you tried checking HP's site for the driver? There are a lot of different models for the Pavillion 5400.
Pick yours and see if there's a driver for your modem.

Download - wherever you can do that, of course... - Everest Home Edition from Lavalys (http://www.lavalys.com) and allow him to search for your modem. It should appear in physical devices (I'm sorry, I don't know exactly the name in english).
Check for the model and search the drivers for your OS, either in HP or from the modem's manufacturer and/or www.driverguide.com.
