Re: Max VLANs to support on 5304xl

Hi

Use the CLI, and type

5300(config)#max-vlans <1-265>

And this requires you to restart the switch.

Re: Max VLANs to support on 5304xl

Does anyone know why HP's procurve Switches have a default setting of max-vlan = 8?

What is the consequence of setting this higer (or even why not just set it to the max)?

Pre-thanks!

Re: Max VLANs to support on 5304xl

As far as I know, it's just a legacy thing that's been carried forward from the first ProCurve switches that supported a maximum of 8 VLANs.

I've never run across any issues when setting them to the maximum amount of VLANs.

Re: Max VLANs to support on 5304xl

a couple of more tidbits:

1) when setting max-vlans, only set to what you need plus a little...memory is allocated for the switch tracking of vlan info and that memory is "hard" allocated, meaning it can't be used for anything else, so even tho a switch could support lots of vlans, config only for what you need...

2) the provisions asic switches (3500/5400/8212/6400) support 256 vlans by default...(not 8 like older switches)
