Multicast within a single Vlan

We have a single Vlan that spans our site that supports medical equipment that uses Multicast. As we are not forwarding multicast traffic between vlans I'm assuming we don't need to configure IP multicast-routing or PIM. We just need to configure a core box as a IGMP querier and enable IGMP on the layer 2 switches. Is this assumption correct ?

Yes within a (v)lan, without routing to other (v)lan's, no extra config is neccessary.

Actually, you don't need to enable IGMP snooping on the L2 switches to make it work -that just prevents unwanted traffic from flooding. Bear in mind that HP switches anyhow will flood 'unknown multicast', so keep to the well defined IP ranges.

Re: Multicast within a single Vlan

Thanks for the replys.

We've been told the clients communicate via multicast and we believe some current performance issues could be that we have no multicast support configured. On our core device I'll configure VLan 191 for ip igmp querier but what commands should I deploy on the L2 switch for the ports in Vlan 191 ?
