Need 48Volt Modem???

Hello Experts,

This is probably not the right forum but does anyone know of a source for 48 Volt DC Modems? I've never heard of such a thing but I am told that this in common in telephone equipment. I need to be able to dialin to this telephone switch and gather data using a server running HPUX 11i.

TIA,
Neil

Re: Need 48Volt Modem???

Well for reasons that I won't go into that's actually referred to as -48VDC, and yes, I know of at least one source.

Look for their CC1600 Rackmount modems and there is an option for a -48VDC power supply. You can actually install two of these for redundancy and there are several modems that will fit in this enclosure.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: Need 48Volt Modem???

While the others gave links on where to find it, let me also point out that most telco equipment is in 24 inch racks, whereas we computer geeks are more familiar with 19 inch models. Normally, 48 volts also means 24 inch. So check out your enclosure before you buy it.

Otherwise, if you're familiar with modems, this shouldn't be a big deal for you.
