OSPF question

Hi,
Is there anyway to make an interface/vlan ospf passive? I have read all the docs and I can't find any information about this.

Or maybe you use a work around?

Regards,
Marcus

Sorry,
forgot to say that I'm using a 5308xl with E.10.02 firmware :)

Re: OSPF question

Marcus,
I'm not sure about your real question. What do you mean for ospf passive?
If you want to use ospf (I guess you will Open Shortest Path First version 2), router has active rule to inquire network and gathering information, so I can understand about passive term.

Re: OSPF question

Sorry, found ospf passive

Advertise the direct interface addresses on an interface without actually running OSPF on that interface. A passive interface is one for which the address information is advertised as an internal route in OSPF, but on which the protocol does not run.

Re: OSPF question

I've used two different workarounds:

1. Use redistribute connected - the routes will show up as external in OSPF.

2. Make the interface active, set a high cost, and make sure to have MD5 authentication.

Both are cumbersome - passive would be really nice.

Re: OSPF question

Regnar,
I also thought about MD5, and I will activate that as soon as possible.

However the need for a passive ospf interface remains. I don't want my users to se all of my ospf packets. But, hopefully HP will include that function in a future release.
