Pavilion 4483

I have replaced the Conexant Riptide 56k modem and sound card on my 4483 and the modem works just fine but there is no sound on the machine. I uninstalled the old modem, replaced with a new one and then run the driver cd that came with the new modem and now I do not have any sound.
Does anyone have any ideas?
