Peer to peer network on Win2000 using Small Network

I've 2 PC's connected via a Hub.
I want to share the Internet with both PC's.
PC 1 has 2 Network cards.

The first card is connecting to Internet with DHCP configuration.
The second card has a static IP [192.168.34.90]

How can I by-pass the need of WIn2000 for the 192.168.0.1 IP Address for sharing, and still remain with my static IP address?

Re: Peer to peer network on Win2000 using Small Network

Hi,

When you'll choose ICS, you are right to say that 2k will re-set your second card IP to 192.168.0.1. You cannot modify the default network configuration after enabling ICS. This
includes items such as the range of private IP addresses that are handed out(DHCP allocator), enabling or disabling DNS, configuring a range of public IP addresses, or configuring inbound mappings.

If you want to keep all that, then you need to use NAT instead of ICS, same menu, but more things to configure. It's 2k server stuff, on 2k pro, m$ assumes you have a small lan, and that you'll follow IP range requirements of ICS.

If you have 2k pro, then you need to get a cheap router to handle this for you...

Re: Peer to peer network on Win2000 using Small Network

Hi Jerome,

I've win2K pro, and I would like to have a solution without a router or any other hardware adding.

Would like to get more info about NAT option, or any external software that can handle my case.

Thanks,

Yaron

Re: Peer to peer network on Win2000 using Small Network

Hi,

NAT is part of RRAS, which means 2k server...

You can get this feature from a soft, there are 2 main :

wingate (most known, suppose to pay for it) :
http://download.com.com/3000-2085-10006621.html

jana, free, less known :
http://www.janaserver.de/start.php?lang=en

Both are NAT & proxy tools, and will do what you need.

Hope it helps.

Re: Peer to peer network on Win2000 using Small Network

Hi J.

It works perfectly. After installing the software , it took about 30 sec. to make an auto config, then a reastart....... and all was DONE.

Thanks a lot for your help !!!.
