ProCurve 2650 strange port behaviour

Hi,

I have a strange problem with HP ProCurve 2650 switch.

I 07/21/06 17:38:09 ports: port 38 is now off-line
I 07/21/06 17:38:11 ports: port 38 is now on-line
------------------------------------------

The log is full with these messages. The ports are different and the period that they appear is different.

The LACP is stopped.

Any ideas?

For ports that are going up and down, I would usually check first if the end-user is reporting any problems, check power saving settings on the PC, and check the cabling.

It can be normal while a PC is booting up or coming out of standby for the port to toggle a few times.

Disabling LACP which you look to have done can also help.

Hi

I think you did this:

2650# config t
2650(config)# no interface all lacp
2650(config)# write mem
2650(config)# show lacp

The response from the switch should be "no LACP ports found".

NOW , reload your Switch :), and everything should work fine after that.

The strangest thing is that the ports go off-line only for 2 seconds.

Every time a (windows) machine boots here, we see 2 of these 2-second "gaps". Seems to happen when the computer loads its network services/drivers.

What is on port 38? Is it a Linux machine? A Windows machine? I would check a few things like the cable quality, port duplex mismatch, etc...
