I'm looking to purchase a cold standby for our 5308xl, it's not very heavily used and another 5308xl would be overkill really. It has modules:
J4852A (unused)
J4820B (7, 10/100 RJ45 ports in use)
J4878B (2, mini-GBIC/SFP ports used)
We use a number of 2650-PWR (J8165A) and I was thinking that our spare 2650 might be able to do the job that the 5308xl is currently doing. I have looked through the config and everything seems fine for the 2650 to do apart from this line:
access-controller vlan-base 2000
I'm not sure if this is default, doing anything or even needed in our set up? Can any one help me on what that command might be doing? (and can the 2650 do the same?)
Thanks in advance.
Tom

SolutionNo, the ACM cannot be installed in the 2650 :-)

If you are doing dynamic routing (RIP/OSPF) in the 5300, the 2650 cannot do that. It can do "local routing" between the VLANs no problem.

Re: ProCurve 5308xl (J4819A)
Pretty sure there isn't an ACM module in there, will double check and if not take the config out tomorrow.
No, no dynamic routing.
Thanks Jeff.

Re: ProCurve 5308xl (J4819A)
no access-controller vlan-base 2000 (from conf t) doesn't seem to work!
Invalid input: vlan-base
it seems to want a SLOT-ID?
no access-controller ?
SLOT-ID Configure various parameters for the access controller module.

Oh, I seem to remember that the later 5300 code may have added that line regardless of actually having an ACM installed, so it would be ready when it did get installed.
The SLOT-ID would be the module slot (A-H) it was in (or will be if an ACM is installed).
Bottom line, the line does not harm, so if you can't remove it, just "ignore" it (the switch does).
It's been a few years since I've played with that platform (5300 and ACM's)...
Happy New Year!
