ProCurve: Find out to which port a particular host is attached?

ProCurve: Find out to which port a particular host is attached?

Hi!
I found a network which is sort of messed up. Some IPs were assigned statically, others by DHCP but for none of them it is documented which physical host they are belonging to. Before continuing with my other tasks I'd like to "tidy up" the address range.

Therefore my question is:
How can I find out to which port of the switch a host with a particular IP- or MAC-address is attached?
(It'd be nice if that was possible via the CLI-Console, without using any GUI/Webinterface)

Thank you very much!

Re: ProCurve: Find out to which port a particular host is attached?

show mac will map a physical address.

Also you can Ping the IP address from the Procurve and then 'show arp'.

For a larger network, you can get free or proprietary tools that will map out the network, by pulling this information out with SNMP.

I'm looking for a free version for larger multiswitch networks.  (All HP switches)

Not free, but worth considering:

1/ just during troubleshooting time, you can use the 60 day trial of IMC.

2/ Since 5.2, there is an IMC basic, which is not very expensive anymore, see IMC Basic platform:
