Procurve 1800 config problem with VLANs

I have two 24-port switches with a GB fiber(RJ45) media converter connecting them. I want half of the two switches to access a 192.168.1.0/24 net and the other half to access 192.168.254.0/24 net. Management can be from either net.

Please help me! This config is killing me.

Re: Procurve 1800 config problem with VLANs

hi Rich
you can connect with web browser 1800 switch with ip address.
and you clik vlan setup and mark all port (all)no tag only and define vlan id ports

after clik vlan setup under vlan port config mark and related mark port associate vlan

you can want media converter connect two switch .Media coverter connect port you make mark all vlan member.

exmaple .
interface 24 is media converter connect port all vlan member and you must mark all (no tag only)

Re: Procurve 1800 config problem with VLANs

Thanks Cenk. If I have two VLANs on each switch, do they have to be symetric? That is does SW1VLAN1 Ports 1-2 have to be the same on SW2? (ports 1-12), or can they cross to P 12-23? Is that what the PVID does?

-------
yes each vlan id must be same ,each switch

That is does SW1VLAN1 Ports 1-2 have to be the same on SW2? (ports 1-12), or can they cross to P 12-23?
-------
no you can select any ports any vlan member each switch

Is that what the PVID does?
------
PVID vlan id number you make select vlan id on port for vlan member(vlan setup under vlan port config tab)

very important:media converver port must be all vlan member and clik all tab(no tag only)
on each switch

Re: Procurve 1800 config problem with VLANs

Cenk,

Is it possible to set Port 24 to Tag-Only? This would let any two switches pass VLANs that are tagged. Maybe I am getting this. But Port 24 still has to be a member of both VLANs then?

Re: Procurve 1800 config problem with VLANs

hi Rich
procurve 1800 switch for vlan term different other procurve model
yes tag port carry vlan information port

because be present tag only tab on 1800 switch

tag only port only carry tagging vlan info because vlan 1 untag so no vlan tagget info in frame

only tag port unable carry vlan 1 info;)

you can clik all tab all vlan carry on int 24

and you make all vlan member int 24

please make test

Re: Procurve 1800 config problem with VLANs

I see. So VLAN 1 is set to all? Is VLAN 2 set to tag-only, or is the tag set by default? Or, are all ports set to All in this example?
