Procurve 5406 and Cisco 1250 AP vlan issue?

Hi All,

I'm trying to configure a Cisco 1200 series AP with multiple ssids connected to a Procurve 5406zl.

The AP has 2 vlans 1032 and 1128, with 1032 as the native mode vlan.

I'm more familiar with the Cisco symantics where I'd put the switch interface in trunk mode with 1032 native and 1128 allowed.

I *think* the HP way is just:

vlan 1032 untagged a1
vlan 1128 tagged a1

but I'm getting weird behavior on the ssid associated with 1128. It's pulling DHCP addresses from the 1032 network and they work, but if I remove 1128 from the switch interface , it does the expected thing (nothing).

I'm not quite sure wich device to look at for the problem, but it feels like the HP switch.

Any thoughts most appreciated.

in some embarrassing corollary to Murphy's Law, after days of banging my head on this I found the device bridging the vlans...moments after posting.

Hi Jon,

this indeed sounds weird. You have it exactly right, on the ProCurve side you should have VLAN 1032 and 1128 on that port, with 1032 beeing the exclusive untagged one and all others (in this case, just 1128) beeing tagged.

You have also proven that removing 1128 entirely will stop this SSID from working. For the SSID to pull DHCP from the 1032 scope can only mean they are somehow shortcut, and it requires the switch side to provide this shortcut (if it was on the AP side, removing 1128 would not have helped).

Any chance there is some unexpected bridge that connects 1032 and 1128? Doesn't even need to be on this switch, could be anywhere in the wired network.

What happens when you take away 1032? Ok, will kill your AP management for the moment, but what happens DHCP-wise to clients in the 1128 SSID?

I can feel your pain. It's the second case today of me posting an answer that overlapped with the thread owner posting their solution. Doesn't help much that I was right in both cases ;)
