Procurve Manager server client access broken due to Windows XP firewall

We have installed Procurve Manager (latest release with updates: PCM C.03.10.201) on a WinXP PC a few days ago. We would like to access the PCM server from other Windows clients, and we can install the PCM Client successfully from the server's http-server on port 8040. I have followed the PCM Admin Guide p. 2-4 for giving access to clients.
However, client logins from remote Windows PCs just hang indefinitely with a message "Waiting for login". We have found that turning off the Windows XP firewall on the PCM server is a temporary fix allowing client logins to complete successfully.
I have searched PCM documentation for instructions on Windows firewall configuration, but there doesn't seem to be any information at all regarding programs to allow or ports to open :-(
Question: Does anyone have instructions for Windows XP firewall configuration on a PCM server ?

Re: Procurve Manager server client access broken due to Windows XP firewall

Hi,

Unfortunately the manual is incorrect in hinting that it is possible to use a firewall on the PCM 3.1 server. Many of the ports used to communicate between the PCM server and clients are dynamically allocated, and for that reason it is not currently possible to use a firewall on the server. This issue has been slated for investigation in future PCM releases to see how it can best be addressed.

Regards,
