RSTP Configuration Question

RSTP Configuration Question

Normally we leave our switches to auto-detect edge settings for RSTP, even on uplinks. Reviewing the manuals and course material it is suggested that for proper STP operation you should manually configure the uplink ports with 'no admin edge port'.

How many people regularly apply this commmand and other manual STP tweaks on their switches? Do you find it beneficial?

Re: RSTP Configuration Question

Hi Jason,

In my environment, I've simply enabled spanning-tree on the core 2824 layer 2/3 switch that performs vlan routing to other HP procurve 2524 and 2800 series switches.

Also using RSTP. Haven't applied the 'no admin edge port' command on the ports that are the uplinks.

Network I/Operation doesn't seem to be impacted by using 'default' RSTP config.

Cheers,

Steve

Re: RSTP Configuration Question

Been looking into this some more and we're finding client ports (regular PCs) which show operedgeport as No despite being auto'd as edge ports. Subsequently when that port transitions from down to up it causes a network wide topology change. This is happening on switches running 10.50 and RSTP.
