Slow Cable Modem

I have cable modem service through Adelphia. They have come out and checked the lines and chanaged the modem, which are working correctly. They have told me the problem is with my computer. I have internet access but it moves at the speed of dial-up. How do I diagnose the potential problem on the computer and fix it?

Re: Slow Cable Modem

Go to dslreports.com and run their tweak test.
This is a very good site for information on speed problems.

Re: Slow Cable Modem

Rob,
You are using cable and not dsl, correct?
What O\S are you using?
How long have you had the service and has it always been slow?
Go into Control Panel, Internet Options, Then delete Temp Internet files then delete cookies, then check settings and change to every page visit not every internet session.
Also lower the temp Internet file space to about 100mb.
What type of Antispyware are you using?

Re: Slow Cable Modem

You might want to google for PMTU as well but be forewarned that you will get a lot of hits to follow.

Re: Slow Cable Modem

The tweak test at dslreports is for all high speed modems including cable. Take a look.

Re: Slow Cable Modem

I would start from your PCI card, did they even check that, or your settings, if you are using a dial-up modum you will get the speed of one, if your settings are wrong you will to
