We have 15x 2824 Switchs in a single stack with no vlans.
My question is do you need a distribution switch to link all the switchs together?
Or
Are we fine without a distribution stitch but should use the Gbic connections to link the switchs together?
Or
Are the switchs fine as they are, in a daisy chain configuration?
Thanks, Im just not sure, where the cut off point is when moving from access to destribution to core switchs. I couldn't find any guides or best practice on how many I should stack.

Re: Stacking HP2824 Managed Swtichs
I make advice to you two distribution switch on your system for redandacy and full time working and each 2824 switch two connect to each core distribution switch.
in this way each 2824 switch to connect network core with 2Gbps uplink port.
on 2824 switch one uplink port down is working other uplink port with 1Gbps connection.
this methot name Hp trunking
and you make STP config (with trunk config)
STP loop free topology protocol
you connect two core switch between hight bandwith connection ten gigabit or 4 gigabit trunk and each 2824 switch sperate two uplink port frist uplink port connect frist core switch ,secont uplink port second core switch
example config :
1core5400(config)#trunk 15-18 trk1 trunk
1core3500(config)#trunk 10 trk2 trunk
1core5400(config)#spanning-tree
2core5400(config)#trunk 15-18 trk1 trunk
2core3500(config)#trunk 10 trk2 trunk
2core5400(config)#spanning-tree
2824(config)#trunk 23-24 trk2 trunk
2824(config)#spanning-tree

Re: Stacking HP2824 Managed Swtichs
yess switch no singe point creating port trunks.Matt right
Adrian, you want make two core switch and core switchs config
1core5400(config)#trunk 15-18 trk1 trunk(for second core switch uplink)
1core5400(config)#spanning-tree
2core5400(config)#trunk 15-18 trk1 trunk(for frist core switch uplink)
2core5400(config)#spanning-tree
2824(config)#spanning-tree
so can you make one vlan all operation you use stp or rstp just can you want many vlan on your system you use MSTP protocol for spanning tree
can you want make one core switch on your system
1core5400(config)#trunk 15,16 trk1 trunk(for edge switch 2824)
1core5400(config)#spanning-tree
2824(config)#trunk 23,24 trk1 trunk (for core switch 5400)
2824(config)#spanning-tree
my recommendation you use two core switch

Re: Stacking HP2824 Managed Swtichs
Should we or should we not be looking at getting two distribution switchs?
If we should be, what switchs in particular would suit us?
Would two of the following "HP procurve switch 6200yl-24G miniGBIC" do?

SolutionI think you should two core switch
my config example for two core switch on your network
for your core switch must be distribution switch
8212,5400,5300 or 6200
6200yl link aggregator switch if you not make utp connection on your core very good switch
because server router etc. device you must be connect on core switch
because your sysem for flexible ,for redundancy ,for upgrade I recommend 5400 switch on your core

Re: Stacking HP2824 Managed Swtichs
Incase anyone comes back on this, I found this tool quite helpful for working out the different switchs and costs associated with them.
