Switch Box

Does anyone have an exact part number of a switch box (and cables needed) that they use to hook up several HP-UX servers (with the standard console port installed on the server)...to one switch box, connected to one console, allowing switching from one server to another through one console?

I asked tech support at a vendor and they recommended something for me that would be fine for our environment. It wasn't. I would like an exact part or something so I don't have to worry about getting the wrong item again.
I know no particular brand is recommended:) I just want model numbers to get this working....
thanks

Re: Switch Box

We have one.

Except we ordered from cdw. All you need as an abcd box with 25 pin straight through rs-232 connectors.

The cables on the other hand are another matter. I had to get a vendor to custom make those for me. Since we purchased $105K worth of hardware from the guy he didn't charge us for the cable.

I have a drawer filled with 25 foot cables I can't use as I learned that lesson.

Re: Switch Box

Here's a couple of ideas:

- many HP servers have a LAN console option, you hookup a LAN cable and you can remote telnet to the console

- many vendors also sell remote console switches to connect multiple machines to one switch/mux. You telnet to the switch, and select the console you want. We use Lantronix products for this.

You can do console work from your desk, instead of in the computer room.
