Time servers

Hi,

I want to install a time server to sync all of my HP switches. I downloaded one off the net but cant get the switch to sync time despite entering all the settings in the switch confog. Can anyone suggest a time server software that should work with my HP switches, they are all 2524 and 4108s

Thanks!

Re: Time servers

Hi,
On linux, you can use any ntpd deamon.
On Windows, the simple way is to use the win32time service : add a new value named 'LocalNTP'=1 in the registry key :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameters
Then, restart this service, and everything should work.

Bye.

Re: Time servers

In Active Directory, accurate time is of utmost importance and I have all my DCs serving out NTP time. I simply point my switches to the nearest DC.

Re: Time servers

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I changed the registry key and restarted. I then altered the settings in the switch to point at the server using unicast SNTP server version 3 but it still wont sync time. Is there something I am missing?

Thanks

Re: Time servers

What are you using for Windows domain timesync? Can you confirm against it? Do you Windows boxes sync to it? Try testing with D4Time.
