Unknown VLANS, forwarding traffic

Hello,

I have serveral Procurve 2512/2524 in a ring configuration running RSTP.
As I understand, the switches are limited in their asics to handle up to
30 802.1Q VLANs.

With GVRP switched off, is there a way to have the switches to forward
traffic containing unknown 802.1q tags on its gigaports?

If this is possible, I could use more 30 vlans in the ring...

With GVRP switched on, what happens after 30 vlans has been learned
and more unknown vlans are comming in?

All switches are running firmware revision F.05.09 .

Regards Erik

Re: Unknown VLANS, forwarding traffic

Hi Kjell,

Very interesting. If it is possible and the packet is seen as Unicast it will be dropped. If the package is seen as Multicast it could theoreticly be forwarded but if it is "unknown" how can the receiver know?

Why not test this...
