Upgrade the Network Switch from 100 base T to 1000 base T(Gigabyte Switch).

Our network team planning to upgrade the Switch from 100 base T to 1000 base T (Gigabyte Switch).

Is there any thing we need to take care during these change. Or just unplug the cable and plug back to new switch.

1) OS any configuration needs to change?

2) What about the Current Server (HPUX 11.23) Network card can support for 1000 base T?

3) What about any other switches need to take care?

Appreciate that someone can reply to me.

Thank you.

If you have VLAN's set up you need to configure the new switch with the same vlan configuration as the old one.

I'm not sure about your network card in the HPUX server (can you check the specifications of the card on the HP website?)

You might also want to take advantage of some of the other capabilities of the new switch like Jumbo frames and quality of service (if you think you need them)

If with the original switch you simply plugged it in and connected endpoints and then left it alone, you will be able to do the same thing with new switch. By default the new switch is configured so that every port can see every other port.

hope that helps
