VLAN Procurve 1800-24g / Longshine 8 port switch

Hi all.

I need to setup 4 VLANS and link them with a Longshine 8 port managed switch.

I will use port 1 on the 1800-24g as uplink to the other switch.

Should I leave Port 1 VLAN 1 untagged on both switches and the other tagged?

Should I buy a 1800-8g to replace the Longshine? I'd not like to... but if this is the only way..

thanks

First try what you've suggested leaving VLAN 1 untagged. If you have any problems with VLAN 1, try tagging it as well.

How have the VLANs been configured on the Longshine?

Re: VLAN Procurve 1800-24g / Longshine 8 port switch

let's say

Longshine
port 1 Vlan 1 uplink
port 2 Vlan 2 DSL Router
Port 3 Vlan 3 WIFI Router
port 4..8 Vlan 4 LAN

Procurve
port 1 Vlan 1 uplink
port 2 Vlan 2 Firewall WAN In
Port 3 Vlan 3 Firewall WLAN Out
port 4..24 Vlan 4 Firewall LAN Out

since the longhine firmware is quite different from HP I think I can assign ports to VLAN as well, and also manage PVIDs

thanks for helping and sorry but I'm new at this.

I would have bought a procurve 8g but it appeared on the marked after a while I bought the Longshine.

Re: VLAN Procurve 1800-24g / Longshine 8 port switch

I recommend you to tag the vlans that you need leaving the vlan 1 untagged (at least for uplinks and downlinks ports). You will need it in case you run a PCM+ or similar software for managing your switches.
