Will the ProCurve 5308xl route across different vlans without using an external router? As of now we have vlans whose gateways point to a sonicwall device that does the routing. I'd like our core (5308) to do the routing across vlans.

Have a look through the IP routing chapter in the Advanced Management & Configuration Guide:

Ok,
All the clients had a gateway that was the sonicwall. If I pointed the gw to the 5308, I could ping across VLANS.
