VLAN's in VMWARE

When someone is trying to add a VLAN to a virtual swith in VMWARE is there anything that has to be done on the physical switch in order for that VLAN to work on the Virtual switsh? If the VLAN is defined on the physial switch is that enough? The switch is a 4108gl.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: VLAN's in VMWARE

Hi

I think the port on the Physical Switch should be in the Default Vlan as Untagged.
And also Tagged to all other Vlans created, so the port carries all Vlans (Tagged), and the Default Vlan (Untagged).

Good Luck !!!

If we are talking VMWARE ESX, then the answer is yes. If you need access to the server outside the VLAN you will of course need some L3 device to route traffic to/from the VLAN.
