Hi all
I'm new to the VLAN networking.
I'd like to accomplish creating 2 VLANs on the switch to connect trunked to the single interface on the SoniceWall 2040 firewall.
What ports on the switch do I need to tag or untag and tag with what ID?
And if any of you have an experience with SonicWall FW, do I need to tag both the X0 and the X0:v2 or just one of them? If just one, which one?
Sonicwall 2040 (supports VLAN)
Port X0 172.16.1.0/24
VLAN ID: 0
Port X0:V2 192.168.1.0/24 (sub-interfance on the same X0 port)
VLAN ID: 2
PROCURVE SWITCH 2650
Single Unplink port to the firewall = Port 48
VLAN ID:0
POrts: 1-23
For the network 172.16.1.0/24
VLAN ID:2
Ports:24-44
For the network 192.168.1.0/24

Solution
you can't use vlan-id "0" (unless on the SonicWall this means "untagged")
so let's say you use vlan 2 and 3.
you can give a vlan a name "vlan0"
but that would be confusing.
vlan 2
name vlan0
exit
>>>
do I need to tag both the X0 and the X0:v2 or just one of them?
<<<
it just must match the config on the procurve switch.
if you use untagged + tagged on the SonicWall, then do the same on the procurve.
(same for tagged/tagged).
I would suggest using both tagged.
By default, the switch allows a maximum of 8 VLANs.
>>>
trunked to the single interface
<<<
procurve port-truking refers to link-agregation/etherchannel configuration (not same as vlan-trunk on cisco)
>>>
so PROCURVE SWITCH 2650
Single Unplink port to the firewall = Port 48
VLAN 2
tagged 48
exit
VLAN 3
tagged 48
exit
so let's say you use vlan 2 and 3.
you can give a vlan a name "vlan0"
but that would be confusing.
vlan 2
name vlan0
exit

Re: VLAN setup question
Thanks, I'll give it a shot once I get the equipments.
I'll post again if I run into anything.
